The focus of our design for this family home in Rozelle was to restore the original cottage at the front of the home (on street level) while adding a modern extension to the elevated rear of the home.
We were inspired by the different heights of the site to create a home that has three semi levels.
The different levels guide you seamlessly up through the home from the street level entrance to the elevated backyard.
Creating the sensation of space was a priority and we did this by using double-height ceilings and a palette combination of timbers and a light colour scheme.
To enhance the natural light in the home we designed a small sculpture courtyard that could be seen from the kitchen and living areas.
We created consistency from the inside to the outside by extending the timber flooring used in the living areas out to the outside deck.
An advantage of the south-facing block meant it wasn’t in full sun so we were able to include a number of windows throughout the home, bringing in the light without the home being excessively hot.
